doesn’t sleep a night!! No seriously, it was so hot I don’t think I slept more
than two-three hours consistently the entire time. Fortunately, the jungle was
more than worth it. The above picture is the view from my front porch! How
amazing is that. The jungle is everything you would expect it to be. The
scenery is beautiful, the temperature is like standing on the surface of a
small sun, and the people are extremely friendly and hospitable. Oh and
jungle boys are the coolest kids in the world.
Now, a little about what we did for three
weeks. The boys (John and I, then eventually Caleb and Matt from Team 12:18)
helped the men bring bamboo and roden out of the jungle, cut it, shave it,
split it, and eventually nail it together to form the bamboo chalets you
see below:

every morning.
Now possibly my favorite part of the jungle
was the jungle kids. They lived up to every expectation I had of them.
There were two year olds walking around completely naked with machetes; naked
boys and girls swinging off vines and jumping off logs into a foot deep river;
kids just doing as they please.

which made
for some incredible sunsets.

To me nothing screams jungle more!
This is baby Grace. She was born on Easter
Sunday. It was 2:30am Easter Sunday and Team Malachi were all asleep in the
church when our translator Pastor Dulek comes running up to the window
screaming, “Brook! Brook! Come quick! Baby! Baby!” Eventually
Brook, Margie, and Christine all woke up and ran over to the pastor of the
village, Pastor Hem’s house. The rest of us slept right through it. Well,
as they arrived they immediately figured out what Pastor Dulek was screaming
about. Pastor Hem’s wife had just given birth to a beautiful baby girl.
This was Pastor Hem’s 13th child and 27th grandchild. They have big families in
the jungle! Anyways the next morning, Pastor Dulek comes over for breakfast and
tells us that the family would like us to name the baby girl. That was an
incredible honor. We discussed it as a team and considering she was born on
Easter morning we named her Grace.
