Amber and Jamal.
2:53AM.
Flight #705: Manila, Philippines to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Partly cloudy.

Jamal: I want an Ipad! I’m the only one in the world that doesn’t have one.
Amber: Really!? Well, you know that’s NOT true.
Jamal: Yes, I know but it feels like it.
Amber: Well you do know that there’s a HUGE difference between those two things, right? Just because something “FEELS like it” doesn’t mean that it’s actually true.

Isn’t it crazy how our perception of a situation is often times much greater than the reality?

– I have the worst job in the world.
– I don’t have anything to offer.
– We have no money.
– Everyone is getting married and I’m the only single person my age left.
– Nobody cares about me. I’m alone and have nobody.
– No one understands what I’m going through.
– I have the worst kids in the world.
– I have nothing to wear in this closet.

But what if what it “feels like” is not what it’s “REALLY” like?

I know we “feel” differently but truth is you do have something to offer.
Someone does care about you. And if you’re confused about how many clothes you “need” in your closet, feel free to sign up for the race. It’ll change your perspective on how much you “DON’T HAVE.” Trust me, someone has been through what you’re going through and lived to tell about it.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not denying there’s some reality in any of those examples.

My hope is to remind us that often times, our perception is much greater than what’s actually going on because unless we acknowledge reality, we’re in danger of making some really dumb decisions.

You’d be surprised who you will marry if you not only feel BUT BELIEVE you’re the only single person left.

Also, if you are convinced you have the worst job, please google the tv show “dirty jobs,” watch a few clips, and then reconsider.

Again, I’m not saying our feelings are invalid. We just have to be careful that we don’t give up our souls for Ipads because we feel like we’re the only ones that don’t have one.

It’s NOT true!

So, tell me….what’s your ‘Ipad’? (In other words, what’s something you’re going through that feels greater than reality?)

Also, have you or anyone you know made some bad choices because the perception of a situation was much greater than reality?
