When deciding to embark on the World Race, you are making the decision to leave behind many things you love. The Lord calls you to sacrifice what you deem important in exchange for the incredible journey He has for you.

For me, one of those major sacrifices was my saxophone.

Music has been one of the most important aspects of my life since I was a small child. I have grown up performing in theatre, singing in choir, playing the piano, and a multitude of other music-filled activities. But at the forefront has definitely been my saxophone.

That instrument is tied to my heart forever, walking me through countless trials and struggles.

So it was definitely a difficult choice to walk away from my instrument for a year.

As our team arrived in Madagascar, I began missing my instrument extremely. It was like a major part of heart was gone. It got to the point where I began praying to the Lord for a saxophone.

Someway, somehow, I needed the Lord to provide this.

But I’m in Madagascar. How in the world would I find a saxophone here?!

Then I find out one of our translators is taking saxophone lessons. To my surprise, I get a call one Friday:

“Jake, I have a surprise for you tomorrow at breakfast”.

The next day comes and to my surprise a saxophone is placed in front of me. I was given a beautiful tenor saxophone to play for a few days.

Here’s the lesson in this: Don’t be afraid to sacrifice what you love to follow the Lord. He knows the desires of your heart and will continually provide for your needs. You may feel scared to live in total faith to the Lord. It may terrify you at the thought of living a life in total abandonment to Him. But once you step out in faith, He will never let you go.

If He can bring me a saxophone in Madagascar, He can provide anything your heart desires.
