If I were to recap my Month 6 in Serbia this past March, it was absolutely an amazing ministry, yet a challenging month for myself and most of my teammates. But I will say with challenges comes growth and this is what made our month worthwhile in addition to all of the lovely people we met.
First and foremost, we were blessed with an amazing host and family in this beautiful, small town called Sombor and we had the opportunity to work alongside Zoli, Tanja, and their two wonderful girls – Viktorija and Anaztazija.
There were two World Race teams (including my team) assigned at this location so imagine 13 people cramped up in one space. It definitely took a lot of teamwork to get us going!
Our ministry was incredible– it was simply meeting people, building relationships and friendships, and just loving on the community. We made plenty of friends in no time, which made it that much harder to say goodbye…
These were some of our lovely friends we met in Sombor that we will forever cherish in our hearts!
This was our typical schedule everyday:
9-11am – Morning Meeting/ Prayer Walk Around Town
11am-1pm – Lunch/Practical Work Around Church
2pm-5pm – Ministry around town to meet new people/ coffee dates/ other events
6pm-7pm – Prepare and eat dinner
8pm-10pm – Game night/hang out/fellowship at the church coffee house/ events
There were days throughout the week where we also visited refugees from Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, and Pakistan at their refugee campsites. We had activities for the kids, sports with the boys, and crafts for the women.
Other days we spent our time hosting social events, a women’s breakfast and pampering party, a men’s fellowship, and preparing and speaking during Sunday church service.
Overall, despite all of the challenges we encountered, we finished the month victorious! We also had the opportunity to meet with the rest of my squad for a few days in Belgrade where we gathered, worshipped, and rested.
I can confidently say that I left Serbia in a good place and I will surely miss everyone that we left in Sombor!
I’m now in Pitesti, Romania diving into Month 7! Stay tuned for more updates!
