On Saturday we went to the mountains to visit a missionary family that our contacts knew. They run a house for abandoned children and they have leagal guardianship of 16 Ukrainian children. This day was a day I will never forget…
We were greeted with several children, arms wide open waiting for their hug. We spent a few hours playing with these kids as well as speaking life into them. I was so suprised by how much love these kids had not only towards us but towards eachother. The house was full of joy and excitement. There was a sence of peace and calm. I could feel the presence of Gods spirit in this house.
We thought that we were there to play and encourage some children but we were so wrong about that. God had a different plan in mind. God wanted to honor us that day. God wanted us to be encouraged.
After eating lunch, we all gathered in the lving room. Some of my teammates and I shared a little about what God has done in us and through us on the race so far.
Then it happened…
Jim the father of the house started talking to us. He told us well done, well done, well done for following what Jesus asked of you. He said this day is for you, God wants to honor you today, let Him honor you. I don’t think that there was a dry eye in the house we were all in tears of joy, tears of shock, tears of humbleness. Some of the children lined up with coffee mugs and envelopes in their hands. They passed these to each of us. Jim told us not to open the envelope that there was a little money to buy something that every time you look at it would remind you of the love Jesus has for you.
Jim then proceeded to tell us that we were going to pray. We were asked to share a prayer request and as we shared the children started getting up and moving towards us. These children were going to pray for us specifically. You want to talk about a powerful prayer…I have never in my life felt the presence of the Holy Spirit during prayer like I did this day. The spirit was moving and working in each of our lives. My prayer request was to get clarification on my future. I feel like God is calling me to Africa to open a recovery home for prostitutes that we worked with. I asked that God would reveal to me if and when I should go.
After praying Jim continued to talk. I felt like he was talking directly to me. He was saying they are waiting, they are waiting for you. God has called you and they are waiting. There it was my confermation. I still don’t know when I am going but I do know that I am going back to Africa at some point.
God showed me that He is calling me to Rwanda to open this recover home, not anyone else but me. These women are waiting on me to follow God. If I don’t follow God and be obediant to what He has for me no one will ever go because God wants me.
As we were leaving this little girl named Sandra gave me a big hug and then handed me her little stuffed puppy and said it is yours take it. My heart sank a little knowing that she was giving me her toy. What love these children have, I have never seen anything like it in my life.
We were driving off to head back home and I decided that I was going to open the envelope that they had given us. I opened it and OH MY GOODNESS!!!! I could not believe my eyes there was a $100 dollar bill in the envelope along with an encouraging word. I was completely humbled and honored. This was such an amazing day and like I said I will never ever forget this day!
