After a very bumpy 9 hour bus ride I finally made it to Isibania!! The bus ride was so bumpy that I literally came out of my seat haha! Oh yes and how could I forget the off roading that took place. just imagine a huge bus (like Grey Hound) making its way through the dirt roads in the middle of nowhere Kenya. The Pastor met us in the town Mcgoree which is right before Isibania because the house we were staying at is just before you get to Isibania. Let me just tell you we are living it up here in Isibania. We are living with members of the church Joash and his wife Esther and they have two children Heffie and Azariah.
The house we are staying at is so great! It is so much better than what I was expecting. The guys have their own room as do the girls. In my room there is one bunk bed and three mattresses on the floor. I am sleeping on the middle mattress on the floor. Each bed also has a mosquito net so that we don’t get eaten alive during the night. In the bathroom there is one small sink, a squatty potty and a little spicket for the shower. There is also a big barrel of water for flushing the toilet. The view from the back yard is spectacular the house is sitting on hill that overlooks mountains. How sweet is it that our hosts built us a seat for the squatty potty!
In the first few days of being here we met up with our contact Pastor Abraham (from know on I will refer to him as Pastor) and went into town. Now this was an adventure! We Walked to the road and there was a taxi waiting for us. Keep in mind this was a normal 5 seater taxi and yes we made the impossible possible we had 11 people in that taxi! I was sitting in the boot (trunk) with two of my team members and Elijah one of our new friends. We were just driving along and all of a sudden it starting pouring rain and then it started hailing yep you read it correctly, and so we had to pull over because the driver could not see a thing. Some of us in the boot got soaked because the roof was leaking. I have to say my rear was just a little wet haha!
I woke up this morning on day 3 to find a huge basen in our bathroom sitting on a fire full of hot water. This water was for our shower. We filled one basen half way full with cold water from the spicket and then the other half with the hot water from the fire. We then took it into our little whole and used a cup to scoop the water onto us. After we took lunch pastor came to get us and we walked to the boarder of Tanzania and on the way we entered no mans land. Pastor showed us around Isibania at all the shops. On our way back to the house we stopped at a church members house who had been in a horrible head on collision about 8 months ago and he was still healing from this. We spent some time getting to know him and his family and then spent some time praying them. We still haven’t dove into ministry yet, pastor wanted us to become comfortable with everything and get to know the town first. Today was a very special day because it was Elaina’s Birthday she is now 22 years old! We made signs had presents and even had her favorite dinner with a cake!
I will not have internet access very much at all this month so please bare with me as I will update you as much and as soon as I can. I love all of you!
Love
Jaime
