Precious Srey Poa
Gods plans are so much bigger than we are. It is so cool to see his plans unfold.
The children here are awesome here! I want to tell you about one little girl inparticular. Her name is Srey Poa she is about 8 years old. She is extremely sweet and pretty much knew everyone’s name right away. She would see me every morning and say Jaime, Jaime and I would say Srey Poa, Srey Poa How are you? I am fine she would reply. God knew what was coming but my team and I would have never had guessed what was about to happen.
January 29th started as a normal day I was going with 8 other people to see a waterfall that was two hours away. This would make it the 5th waterfall we have tried to swim in. When we arrived there was no waterfall, go figure HaHa!! It was just a bunch of rocks with little swimming holes throughout. For my team this was epic fail number five on swimming in a waterfall. We didn’t stay very long and then returned home. When we arrived our team leaders met us at the van and said don’t go to the house go straight to the table, we have something we have to talk about. I thought we were in trouble, that we had done something wrong. We sit down and Brandon tells us that while we were gone there was an accident. One of the children in the village had drowned and died. Her name was Srey Poa she was about 8 years old. There is a pond next to their house where her and her sister Srey Dat were bathing. Srey Dat went out too far and starting drowning. Srey Poa went in to save her big sister and didn’t make it out alive.
When I heard this news my heart sank. I thought why could God take the life of such an amazing little girl. I didn’t understand why this would happen. We were invited into her grandparents house where people were mourning and talking about what happend. We walked in and there she was, this little girl laying on the floor, lifeless. We were asked to pray for her and we were all praying for God to show up and provide a miricle, that God would bring this girl back to life. We prayed and prayed and nothing happened. This prayer was the plan that we wanted. God had a different plan. As we sat there praying and thinking about the events of the day tears start falling from everyones faces. Her family thought death was not a big deal to Christians. God showed up in that moment and her family got to see that Christains mourn just like they do and that death is a big deal to Christians. We were able to help change how they viewed Christians.
Do you remember me telling you how our route was changed month four of the race. This was all part of God’s plan. You see we were not suppose to be here in Cambodia this month originally. God knew that this was going to happen and he changed our route so that we could be here for this family and bring the light in a time of darkness.
This was a sad time and a hard time but Gods hands were all over this moment. I saw his presence in the whole process. We were able to pray several times over Srey Poa even when her parents were Buddhist. We were able to give a joyful smile in the time of heart break, we were able to give hugs in the time of lonliness.
God is good even when we don’t believe he is. God always has his hands in everything we just have to look for them.
