Hey Everyone!

It's that time again. Time to catch you up on what's going on in Africa and in my life on the World Race. I think I left off in Kenya last blog so I’ll start with Uganda. Uganda was one of the hardest months of my life. Basically I was sick the whole month. On top of whatever was going on in my intestines, I was diagnosed with Malaria, bacterial infections, and some crazy parasite called Bilharzia. I was a prisoner to my mosquito net and bed once again and there were a couple times I thought I was just going to die…and part of me wanted to. The only time I made it out of the bed was to take a trip into town to the doctor's office/hospital. I never really got a chance to be engaged in ministry which was hard for me. On top of feeling like crap I felt very useless and like a burden on everyone around me. My team was amazing. They really took good care of me and fought for my healing.

The best part of the month was meeting some fellow American missionaries that started a organization called DOORS. These two young ladies came to Uganda with another organization and felt led to branch off and start their own ministry reaching out to street kids, giving them a place to live, food to eat, an education, and really a chance at life. Most importantly they are giving them Jesus. They invited us into their home with all the boys that they have taken in and a house full of volunteers from the states. We tented in their yard and in their living room and just did life with them. I feel like I made some life long friends and was so inspired by their bravery and vulnerability.

At the end of the month in Uganda our whole squad met up in Jinja to stay for a few days and white water raft the Nile and bungee jump. I begged God to make me healthy enough to raft the Nile and He did. It was amazing! On the first rapid (which was the craziest) we flipped over and I got stuck under water long enough that I started breathing in water and panic set in. I literally saw my life flash before my eyes. I now have a respect for water that I’ve never had before! I conquered my fear and continued on with the rafting the rest of the day. I thank God for that once in a life time experience.

I'm sad that I was sick most of Uganda, but I am so thankful for the friends that I made. They redeemed my month and taught me so much about God and being obedient to Him, even when you are scared out of your mind and don't have a clue what you are doing.

Next up…Tanzania and Malawi!
