Oh Kenya… you were a great month. Something about you made it one of my favorites. Definitely had something to do with the fabulous contacts and beautiful landscapes that provided one of the most peaceful atmospheres I’ve ever experienced. Pastor John and Mama were probably the most hospitable hosts I’ve had while on the Race (and probably ever). Mama washed my feet when they were dirty from walking, she even washed my chacos and made them look brand new. Pastor John faithfully filled up buckets of hot water for me to shower with every night and even let the girls sleep in his family’s room and three beds. A plethora of women served us day in and day out cooking three meals a day for us and even brought us tea and coffee and snacks in the middle of the day. I was always greeted with a goodmorning and a welcome home after coming back from ministry. It’s a time I will always remember… a time marked by peace, servanthood, love, and joy.

Snapshots:

> I hiked over an hour in a skirt to preach at a church where I danced with the kids till the sweat was rolling. The kingdom of God really does belong to the children.

> I read a book on marriage with my team to help improve our relationships with each other and get a head start on our future relationships.

> I finished the “Mark of the Lion” series by Francine Rivers and lived vicariously through amazing characters living in the days of the Roman Empire and the height of Christian persecution.

> I rode picky picky’s (motorcyles) all month and had a blast.

> I took a nap in a hammock. Those are the best kinds of naps.

> I watched the changing colors of fantastic African sunsets.

> I talked about purity to teenage girls at local schools.

> I listened to it rain on a tin roof and was more entertained by a hail storm than I have been by anything else in a while.

> I showered on a rock enclosed by wooden sticks with no door.

> I pooped in a dirt hole with humongous terranasouras rex looking grasshoppers who come out at night and crawl all over the walls.

> I fed a goat my left over banana peals after breakfast.

> I talked about personalities and time management at high schools and home churches.

> I watched the Bourne Identity huddled around an iphone with 5 other people.

> I helped write a song and choreograph a dance about dark chocolate with two of my teammates for Valentine’s Day.
