1.Carrying a machete is the norm
2. A horse or moped is your mode of transportation
3. You can’t throw your toilet paper in the toilet and flushing is done with a bucket of water
4. You are always given a chair to sit in before the homeowner when you enter a home (even though we are always surprise guests and regardless to the age of the homeowners)
5. Either lane is an option for driving
6. Expensive homes are made entirely of cement
7. Rice and beans is the universal favorite meal
8. Everyone you pass says hola and couldn’t be more excited to see you
9. Public transportation means vans with fringe curtains
10. Goats and cows walk door to door like people
11. Everyone drinks his or her water from a huge jug or a bag (shout out Chelsea!)
12. Gated bars replace glass windows on porches
13. Everywhere you turn has a backdrop of forested mountains
14. The men are unafraid to wear pink
15. Driving intersections have absolutely no traffic signs
16. Ants are omnipresent
17. People pick fruit right off their trees to give to you as a welcoming gift
18. You ask a question and don’t really get an answer
19. Your ministry host invites you to his home every night to use his Internet (which turns off whenever it feels like it)
20. Coffee is made black with a whole cup of sugar (it has the same effect as American Expresso…zing)
21. People just sit on the side of the road watching for who may pass
22. You lead a worship service directly across from a bar blaring its reggae-tone music
23. Kids you don’t even know run up and hug you
24. You ride in the back of a pick-up truck and can see the Milky Way
25. It rains every day around 4pm
26. The power randomly turns off several nights a week
27. People randomly add or remove s's when they speak Spanish
This home may look a little different than what I'm used to in the states, but MAN do I feel blessed to be here! Sorry for the delay in posting but the Internet here is slower than what we are used to. I hope to be posting an update on my ministry in the next week…so keep a look out!
