Buenos Noches!
My first check-in non-state side! I am here in the beautifully landscaped, blistering hot, widely friendly, ant filled Dominican Republic. As was promised, it is not at all what I expected. I am living in an unbelievable 5-bedroom palace, equipped with a functioning kitchen, outlets, and a strong roof to keep me safe. We have the pleasure of having multiple toilets, but the not so pleasure of being unable to flush them (what I mean is, most of them you have to pour a bucket of water into in order to clean it, rather than pressing that handy flusher button and ABSOLUTELY NO TOILET PAPER ALLOWED IN THE TOILET. So for now I get panicked every time I need to use the bathroom, for fear that I will accidentally drop my paper in the toilet and have to fish it back out of the dirty water…you get the picture…eww). We are especially blessed this month because we are living with two other J squad teams (shout out: Ahava and Furiasanta)! We live in a wealthy neighborhood with playful children as our neighbors. As if it couldn’t get any better, we live in walking distance to anything we’d ever need: supermarket, open food market, internet café, pharmacy, water supply store, parks, and even an exercise track. In short, we’ve got it made!
So to all my family and friends, this is me checking in saying I am doing great! I am extremely safe and picking up lots of Spanish! I felt like a simple hello may not meet your “Jacquie” quota for this week so I made you a video to see what life on this side has looked like.
Check out the video below (click on the link) to get the inside scoop on what launch really looked like and to see our stunning new home! Miss and love you all.
