“Jacob, don’t go to college next year.”
“God, What do you mean do mean don’t go to college next year?!?!?!? I am so excited for it! All my friends are going to be there! I already have my roommate! College is going to be so fun! Don’t take this away from me.”
“Trust me Jacob, I have different and greater plans for you next year.”
“God, so you’re telling me to give all of this up!?!?!? If not college, then what?! How am I supposed to trust if it feels like theres no plan?!”
“Jacob, just have faith.”
Haha I laugh writing this. I remember when God told me to not go to college back in October, I was so mad, frustrated and angry. I couldn’t see how skipping out on college was best for me. I wanted to control everything and have my way because it seemed like God didn’t have a plan and he was just trying to mess with mine. But God has used these last 9 months to radically change me. He has showed me that he provides in such extravagant ways. He has done such a mighty work in me that even in my stubbornness, he proves to be faithful. And by the end, all I can do is go on my knees and declare “Have your way, Father.”
Theres a lot more to this story (so if you want the full story, message me, seriously its an incredible story), but Its time to get one thing straight: I AM NOT GOING TO COLLEGE NEXT YEAR. I said it. God won. I guess he’s a pretty convincing person.
What are you doing then?
Well, after many, many confirmations, prayers, changed hearts, an application, and an interview, I opened up my email 2 weeks ago to something that read “Jacob, you have been accepted to ALUMNI TEAM LEAD.” I am so excited to say that I will be going back on the World Race, not as a Racer, but as an Alumni Team Leader.
This September, there will be 300 Gap Year Racers, launching from Atlanta to start there World Race journey. I will get the opportunity to disciple and lead a group of them for 3 months. I have learned so much about the importance of Godly influence and discipleship. And I am committed to influencing a new generation of young, radical believers to spread the kingdom and solidifying their identity in christ. For me, this next year is all about trusting in the Lords provision. Theres a lot of unknowns, but the Lord hasn’t failed me yet!
I am so thankful for all of your support! Seriously, I couldn’t have done this past year without you! And I’ve realize that I can’t do this next year without you either. I need your prayer that the Lord will continue to give me provision. That I could lead as a man of christ and as a devoted follower of him.
