Throughout my blogging process I have resisted the urge to write a more academic type of blog, but I am giving in to this urge for this blog. This is to try and explain my excitement for living in community with my squad and to build a church amongst ourselves and the world. I am truly more excited to see the many people of different Christian beliefs come together in harmony.
Through my studies at the University of Dayton I was introduced to the concept of Communion Ecclesiology. This concept has many sides and numerous different versions some are Roman Catholic, Orthodox, and Protestant. This is to say there are multiple views of the Church. Sometimes these views are seen as paradoxes or at odds with each other. What Communion Ecclesiology tries to do is hold these views not at odds with each other, but held in healthy tension with each other.
Healthy tension amongst different views causes dialogue. This dialogue thus brings better understanding. This also can help bridge the divide amongst the different views. This is to help bring about one unified Church that will, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength, and all your mind; and, love your neighbor as yourself. (Luke 10:27)”
So what does this have to do with the Worldrace?
As we are becoming a Church amongst our squad this is exactly doing. We are creating a dialogue to help build bridges amongst many different Christian backgrounds. Some will hold a more Sacramental, Pneumalogical, or Christological view of the Church, and that’s okay. What will be amazing to see is how to respect the other view and learn how you can grow in your own faith and practice.
While studying Communion Ecclesiology I saw the practical application of this in my head some. I’m excited to see it come to life amongst my squad as we are a Church making His name known.
