1. Be prepared for being sick at some point!

I got sick with the cold or flu on like day 4 or 5 of camp that made the last half miserable! Luckily the fam showed a tremendous amount of loved and hooked me up with Nyquil and always made sure I was doing alright!

  1. Don’t nearly pack as much!

Even though I only had about 30 pounds of stuff it was still overwhelming and honestly I didn’t use nearly as much as I thought I needed.

  1. Don’t be afraid to be weird or try new things!

This is something that has plagued my life and still does. It has caused me to not be a part of things I wanted to do. It is so because I have always worried how people view and see me. I know it’s going to be hard not to fall into this mindset again, but I got a huge family to keep it in check. Also don’t be afraid to eat a fly or a cricket, we all need some protein.

  1. Be intentional about making friendships and have a listening ear.

In the hurry of our everyday American lifestyle we tend to forget about others a lot and think friends will just show up in your life one day. (Maybe I just thought that some) To be intentional about making a lasting relationship with someone that you are going to be spending the next 11 months with and to get to know them. Listen to their story and ask questions about their story. This will bring a better and trusting relationship.

  1. Be vulnerable

Man, this is hard with all the walls we have built up for defense. Being vulnerable in just the short amount of 10 days has brought closer and more trusting relationships. I’m not afraid to show my family my heart or my wounds. I know they will listen to me and still love me know matter what. It’s a great way to live but, is still very challenging to be so open.

I’m excited for this journey of going to countries to share Jesus with the unreached people groups of the world! If you’d like to follow the journey subscribe to my blog! I currently still have $1,950 to raise to meet my $10,000 by July 21st. If you’d like to donate hit the “donate” button at the top or message me, email me at [email protected]

P.S.-The food at camp wasn’t bad at all. (for readers of my last post)

With love,

Jacob
