In September I’m quitting life.
Really. No more Ipods, convenience, house cats… For the most part all the amenities of 1st world living will be gone.
This fall I am leaving America for a life of reckless abandonment to live in a close-knit community and have a life-changing kingdom journey. I will live in eleven different countries over the course of eleven months. That may sound a little epic and slightly confusing, most people cannot imagine a journey, let alone understand anyone who comes from a kingdom. As for why I’m leaving I’ve explained it here in understandable but still baffling terms.
Back to the point! I am leaving on an adventure called the World Race! It is not an easy journey, nor is it easy to embark upon. To go God must raise 15,500$ and more than that He must sustain me in many ways as I head to some of the most wonderful, incredible, poor, and forsaken places on Earth. I fully expect Him to pull through. During the trip I will land in a new country each month and live life trying to serve in mostly impoverished communities. The World Race is less of a mission trip and more of a pilgrimage.
I will live out of a two man tent, the floor of dirt and rocks will be my bed, bugs will be my friend, and poverty my muse. I will live off of very little a day. I will shower less frequently than is preferred, and far less frequently than a man looking for a beautiful wife should shower. Sometimes I may not have a toilet. Nor a real cozy home. Either way though I will be extremely blessed.
The world race is a very unique missions trip. It is a chance to give up everything for one year to serve the least, the marginalized, the wounded. I will meet trafficking victims in Thailand, live with Gypsies in Romania, and see AIDS orphans in Africa. I will be working in places of high risk, as well as occasionally just teaching English. I want to be the hands and feet of Christ in the world and see lives changed. It is a time not to save the world, but to reach out to a world that needs saving and walk away closer to God. I long for that great pilgrimage. That great journey.
