As our plan descended over LA I looked out the window to my right and saw mountains on one side (how did I not know there were mountains here?) and the ocean on the other. I’ve never had a view like that before. It was astounding. When I shared with a few of my squadmates how amazing I found that sight to be, they just replied, “Well get ready because you’re going to see some much more amazing things than that very soon.” Oh how gloriously true that is.
I’m still sort of in “Whoa!” mode, not really sure how to handle the idea that this whole thing is getting off the ground. True to my M.O. I began to retreat into my head for most of the day. After I sat down with the World Racers who had already arrived, the noticed it right off. Erin commented that I seemed to be in my own world. Vicki pulled out a deck of cards and six of us played one of my favorite games. Luckily that shook me out of my funk and I loosened up enough to write this blog.
I’m thinking of all of you and can’t wait to start telling the stories of the nations on this here blog. Now is the time to start checking back often, because I’m sure there are many more firsts to come and I can’t wait to share them with all of you.
