My brother recently told me about the way that he has made major decisions in his life. You know, stuff like choosing not to pursue a doctoral degree at the University of Florida before going on to Seminary. Or deciding when he was ready to get married. He said that he simply asks himself one question. He asks himself, “Is this what I want to base my life around?”
A little more than two months ago my squad and I finished the World Race. As I talked to different groups of people I commented that I had come back to many of the same questions about life that I thought I had left behind. The difference is that since the Race I feel much better equipped to be answering those big life questions.
I now believe even more firmly that that it’s possible to “base your life around” serving the Lord. I believe we can make those big life decisions around what gives us the greatest opportunity to enhance and advance the Kingdom.
The life decisions don’t look any easier to make. Life’s goals don’t look any easier to obtain. But there’s hope. There’s hope that this life can be about more. There’s hope for fulfillment. There’s hope that I can be choosing into God’s Kingdom.
And that’s what I want to base my life around.
