What does it mean to love someone?
To truly, bottom-of-your-heart, adore someone. How many people can you say that about? How many people can make you feel rare and pure and special? I think to love someone means to be radically amazed by that person for who they are–not because of anything they’ve done or said…just them. Their souls. Completely precious in and of themselves. To look at them with overwhelming joy and not understand how such an incredible person can exist in your life. To unapologetically leave your heart in their hands because you trust them to take care of it. You are all theirs and only theirs and you can’t imagine a life without them. To feel completely comfortable always in their presence. You share your dreams, your desires, and your passions with them.
When they touch your hand you feel that tug on your heartstrings. Fireflies in your belly. Love is selfless, kind, and gentle. When you see their eyes light up in appreciation or when they laugh at something you said and you replay that moment over and over in your head just to relive that warm feeling spread all over you again. When they talk about their passions and dreams for their life and the joy radiates all over their face. When they are in their element while their wild hair blows in the wind, smiles stretched across their face, carefree as a bird…you realize you’ve never seen anyone look so beautiful. They’re the first thing on your mind in the morning and your last thought before you fall asleep. They’re the sunshine bursting through your day. To have an ever blossoming relationship full of laughter, sweet moments, a lifelong best friend…when that person is your dream. If that’s what love is…you now know one thing–you love them. That’s how Jesus loves you.
