Sandwiches.
Today I made them pb&j sandwiches. Tiny Cambodian children run around the school all day long. Free lunch is not provided. Very few can afford full meals while the others can only afford a couple pieces of candy. Every single day without fail my students buy snacks to give to Teacha Jac…snacks not for themselves.
“Feed my sheep.”
What?
“Do you love me? If you do, then feed my sheep.”
What does that even mean? I can’t afford to feed every kid in the school. I can’t solve their problem of hunger. I can’t even read most of the ingredients on the packaging. I don’t have the money???
“Feed my sheep.”
“Ok. I guess I can feed my two classes.”
I bought the peanut butter and jelly last night. There was no bread at the store so I began to pray for bread. As a person highly allergic to gluten this was definitely a highly unusual thing for me to pray to receive. Well, this morning I arrived at my school and a little lady at a snack stand just happened to be selling tiny rolls of bread. Every morning that snack shop has only snacks, meats, fruits, candy…no bread–except for today.
Jesus tore His loaves of bread, multiplied it, and placed it right in my path. I excitedly made the sandwiches and thanked God for the physical bread He blessed me with; however, that wasn’t the only bread I was supposed to receive.
While both of my classes sat down this afternoon, I began to hand out the sandwiches. I received a lot of surprised looks at why a teacher would buy food for a student, excitement for yummy snacks, and lots of grateful hugs after class was over. Then I felt a tap on my shoulder…
When I turned to my Bible this afternoon I received my own spiritual PB&J sandwich.
Psalm 34:10
“The young lions lack and suffer hunger; But those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing.”
