For those of you who do not know this, yesterday was free comic book day. It just so happens that I love this day. I am a comic book nerd, and I am not ashamed of it. Some people think comic books and graphic novels are just for kids, and they have no real value. I completely disagree with that. Comics are a massively popular genre that has been on the rise in recent years. Ask almost anyone, and they can name at least a few heroes like Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, or Wonder Woman. As a child, my parents were very careful in what they let me watch. They did let me watch most super hero shows that were coming out around that time. I loved watching shows like Justice League, Batman the Animated Series, the 70’s Wonder woman show, and even the 60’s Spider-Man series. Looking back, my sense of humor was heavily influenced by Batman in Batman the Animated Series. Many kids, and even adults, remember watching those shows. It is an excellent way to start a conversation. Those shows also taught me a lot. Superman taught me to always stand up for what I believe in, no matter what is opposing me. Batman taught me that every single life is valuable, even the lives of those people you do not like very much. Wonder Woman taught me not to upset women. These heroes, and the morals that they symbolize, have helped me become who I am today. This just proves that God can use anything and anyone for his glory. Even someone who wears spandex and wears his underwear on the outside of his costume.
