My squad and I have finally settled down in India! Most of the details of the traveling are boring, so I guess this will be a boring blog post. We started out on Tuesday in Atlanta Georgia. We waited for a few hours at the airport before our thirteen-and-a-half hour flight took off. If I were lying, I would say that I enjoyed every second of the flight. Honestly however, being in a pressurized metal tube for thirteen hours, cramped up against the wall, and having to eat food with more spice than I have ever had before, was not exactly enjoyable. We finally got to our first destination, Qatar.
In Qatar, we had a small four hour layover. I enjoyed this airport because it was not very busy, so I had some peace and quiet. This is the point in which the squad had to split up. About half of us flew directly to Hyderabad, while the rest of us had to go to Mumbai first. After some confusion, we all parted ways and went to our respective gates. My half of the team and I got on a huge plane and went to our second stop, Mumbai.
That flight was not nearly as long. What was longer, however, was the layover. We had to wait in Mumbai for almost twelve hours. Going through customs was fairly painless, but it did take an hour or so. Our fearless leader, known as Mark, was able to get us into the actual terminals hours before we should have been allowed to. Mark is awesome. After we got in, we waited. And waited. And waited. But then, we waited. After waiting for what seemed like forever, because at this point we were so exhausted we had lost all sense of time and reality, we got on our final flight. After over two whole days, we landed at our final destination.
Not much has happened since we have been here, besides an extremely uncomfortable bus ride that I do not want to talk about right now. The place we are staying is really nice. It has running water, and almost all of the guys have beds. We have a couple days of rest here, and then we will move deeper into the country. It will be nice to rest after our two days of pure insanity. And yes mom, I am safe and everything is ok. I haven’t been bitten by a bat yet. 😉
Update: I am posting this a couple days later than I wrote it because I haven’t had internet. India is insane, but great.
