When I was young, I loved playing Hide and Seek. It made me feel like I was a super stealthy ninja, or a spy. If I could, I would play this game for hours. Being a seeker was okay, but it was a lot more fun to hide. I thought that I was the best hider in the world. I was wrong. Many times, if the seeker was an adult or just someone much older than me, they knew exactly where I was, but pretended as if they did not know. God does the same thing with us. Many times, mankind is seen as the seekers. We are constantly searching for something more, something to give our lives a purpose and a meaning. Although we are sometimes the seekers, more often than we realize, we are the hiders. God seeks us out in whatever situation we are in. We can not truly hide from God, but we think we can. In Genesis, Adam and Eve hide from God in the garden. God calls out to them, asking them where they are. Just like the adults when I was trying to hide, He knew exactly where they were. God did that to prove a point. He has a plan for each and every one of us, and he will seek us out to make sure we work for him. In Exodus, God calls out Moses. He chooses Moses to be the one to free his people from Egypt. Even when Moses says that he is not good enough to be the one to free the people, God still chooses him. Throughout the rest of the Bible, we see people trying to hide from God, and we see God seeking them out to do his will. God is not hiding, we are the ones who are hiding behind our sin. In life’s big game of hide and seek, we may try to be the seekers, but we have already been sought out by the one who holds everything in his hands.
