Warning!!!
If you come to Ethiopia the probability of you falling in love is very very high.
Ethiopia has been such a blessing to me and my heart is full of love for this place. I want to share a few of my favorite things about Ethiopia.
1. Hand Washing. If you are invited to a home for a meal be prepared to have your hands washed by your host. It’s such a humbling experience.
2. 3 Rounds of Coffee? Yes please! In Ethiopia it is tradition that you have 3 rounds of coffee. I will never say no to coffee. And they roast the beans and grind them in front of you. Ethiopia your are doing it right.
3. Communal Meals. Favorite meal I’ve had was at an amazing organization called Selamta. The staff brings their lunch and then throw it all together on one big plate with injera. Then we all eat with our right hand. Love it!
4. Right Shoulder to Right Shoulder Greeting. Here in Ethiopia you shake hands and go in for a shoulder tap. Both your right shoulders will touch and I really enjoy that.
5. Being Feed. Ethiopians feed each other. If you are having a meal with someone and they feed you in the mouth once it means you’re an enemy. Feed you twice, you’re a friend. Feed you three times and you are family.
Ethiopia you know how to serve each other and love one another.
The people here have taught me a lot about what it is like to serve and love. I’ve seen a lot of Jesus in the way they treat each other. I’m really going to miss the people, the food, the coffee. Everything about Ethiopia I will miss.
