I don't know many people who are lucky enough to have a mom like mine.

She's pretty incredible.

Let's just put it this way: when people ask me to describe my mom, I often say, "well, she's probably the coolest person I know."  And I've been able to say that since middle school; I always thought she was cool, always wanted my friends to know and be around her.  I never went through that stage of being embarrassed to be around her.

My mom has been the biggest role model and influence in my life.  She has really taught me to live well, to seize the day.  She has shown me, a shy and timid girl, how to be bold and courageous.  Because she has modeled it, I have learned how to be a fighter, a warrior, a strong woman.  She has shown me how to be driven and prudent, but also never settle and never give up.  My mom is the epitome of "work hard, play hard".  She has also taught me her understanding of others, self-awareness, and her love of problem-solving.

Although we are different, I am proud to say I am my mother's daughter.

Today is the first Mother's Day I haven't been able to celebrate with her.  I wish I could see her today and give her a big "Powell" hug.  But, instead, I want to celebrate today by proclaiming to everyone I know how amazing she is, and how grateful I am for her.

I will never have enough time, or words, or hugs to express how grateful I am to God for making my mother my mother.  She has taught me so much and made me who I am.  And I hope to have the privilege to pass down her incredible spirit and legacy to my own kids one day.

I love you, Mojo! Always and forever.  <3

(I encourage you to do something great for your own mom today! But also, if you readers would have just a few minutes to send my mom a little note of encouragement – anything really would be fun – please do! Her email is [email protected])
