Scene 2:

Later that afternoon, my team and I had a special time of connecting with the family whose compound we are living in this month. When I was questioning how to love this city [the needs seem so great], Henry, a 4 year old precious boy, came to me. Once I saw him, I felt the Lord whisper in my soul, “Show him my love. Remember ‘let the little children come to me.'”

Throughout the afternoon, my teammates and I took turns playing with Henry. From piggy back rides to hide and go seek, it was a fun afternoon. Henry and I sat down to read a story together when the familiar ice cream truck’s melody streamed in our compound. He leaped up and ran to his parents to ask for permission. In a matter of seconds, Henry ran to a basket, scurried to the gate, and disappeared into the street. He emerged with a special treat in hand, glaced at me, and said, “un momentito” [similiar to “just a second”]. He raced towards the gate and emerged a second time with a smirk painted on his face and his hands behind his back. Suddenly, his hands sprung forward with a cold, melting ice cream bar in each hand. He handed me an ice cream bar as he said “Mucho gusto para conocerte.” [“it is a pleasure to get to know you”]. Henry’s generousity and giving heart at such a young age taught me how we should put others in front of ourselves and give out of our lack.
