Hi everyone!! I would like to share a little story with you today (that I thought was fitting since TOMORROW IS EASTER) about who Jesus is in the eyes of a 3 year old.
In January, my older cousin Josh passed away. This weekend, my sister and I took his 3 year old son, Oliver, to the children’s museum. While we were there, Oliver was obsessed with this airplane (like an interactive one that you can get inside & all that), and kept wanting to go back to it. When we asked him where he was taking us in the airplane, he responded with “we are going very far away, to heaven, to visit my daddy. He is with Jesus and He keeps him safe. When we get there, Jesus will keep us safe too.” Let me say again that this came from the mouth of a 3 YEAR OLD. The answer he gave us reminded me of what I believe to be one of the most uplifting and hopeful verses in the Bible:
“Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him; I will protect him, because he knows my name.” Psalms 91:14 (ESV)
JUST THINK ABOUT THAT FOR A SECOND. The same God who created the heavens and the earth, the same God who defeated hell and the grave itself, is the God who’s FIGHTING for YOU and me, PROTECTING YOU and me. So HOW in the world could ANYTHING ever stand a chance against us? NOTHING, INCLUDING DEATH, can defeat the power that we have through Christ. We, being people of the world, see death as the end of life. But it really is only just the beginning of life, the life we were made to live. I think we often get so caught up in our worldly lives that we forget that our God defeated death 2000 years ago when He died on the cross and rose from the grave three days later. Since that day, DEATH HAS NO POWER OVER US. This world brings sorrow and pain of all kinds, while heaven is the place of joy and love, where, as Oliver already understands, Jesus protects us from everything that could ever hurt us in the world.
I hope this blog reminds you that whatever you are going through, whatever burdens you are carrying, you have the Creator of the world on your side, going through it right by your side. I challenge you to have the faith of Oliver, my favorite boy in the world, knowing that God is your forever protector, and that heaven will always be your true home.
