It's been a week since I found out I'm officially going on the world race. Since then, I've been called and emailed and sent so much information I think my head might explode. And I have $16,285 to raise in the next year-ish.
Yes, this blog will be here through the whole World Race experience. You can follow me to 11 countries in 11 months. You can see wonderful things God is doing. You can know how to pray for me. But first things first..I have to raise the money! So here is my fundraising outline!
World Race Route 1= $16,285
This covers land, air, and sea travel during the race.
Visas
Food and Lodging
Health Insurance
Administrative Costs
Set Up Costs
Coaching and Debrief Costs
Training Camp Costs
This is a big number, but for nearly a year living on $16,000 really is super cheap. Especially given the fact that we'll be traveling to 11 countries.
Deadline #1: May 2nd: $3,500
Deadline #2: June 20th: $7,500
Deadline #3: October 1st: $11,000
Deadline #4: January 1st: $16,285
There are some things that the World Race does NOT cover:
Vaccinations: Yellow Fever, Typhoid, and Malaria Medication
Travel to training camp and back
Travel to starting point and back
Gear: Pack, Daypack, Tent, Sleeping Pad, Sleeping bag, Liner, Comfortable Sandals, Long Skirts, Ect…
Spending money: They suggested $100 a month
Cell Phone Bill: $110 a month (until January when my 2 year contract ends!)
After getting my packing list, reading about other WR advice on gear, searching the internet for the best deals, and seeing about plane ticket costs vs. driving costs, I've decided the ideal amount of extra money would be $3,750
How in the world am I going to do this? I'm not. I'm going to try my best and leave the results up to God. That's been my mindset for my past mission trips and he's never failed me.
My idea is to get 27 people to commit to giving $50 a month for a year starting anytime from now until January 1, 2014. If this happens, then I will have my whole trip paid for!!
THEN I could do fundraisers throughout the year this year, babysitting, working, house cleaning, house sitting, ect… to raise the $3,750 I would need of personal money.
This is ideal because it would guarantee my full 11 months on the race, I am student teaching in the spring and won't have much time to focus on big fundraisers. But, I'll try my best 🙂
So we'll see what happens. I sent out my first letters on Monday. If you don't get one this week or next week and want one, let me know and I can put you on the mailing list. If you want to support me financially you can click on the support me tab under my profile picture. You can give once, monthly, or annually. These contributions are tax deductible (WIN). There is a 3% service charge when giving online, but if you want to bypass this charge you can make a check out to me and I'll send it in!
There are just SO many options for ya. 😉
Thanks for joining me on the journey around the world! You can subscribe to my blog and get an email notification every time I blog. Until next time…
