One thing about me is I LOVE sports. Basketball, Hockey, Soccer, Football, etc.. You get the idea. I’m a competitive person. I like video games, but the sole purpose I play them is to win, I can not stand losing (as most people don’t) but it really gets under my skin. The sport I played the most growing up is basketball! I love to hoop, all of my problems seem to go away and for a few hours I can glorify God in my talents and have fun. In high school I played AAU which is a competitive league here in the states for high-school students. If you are familiar with sports you’ve probably heard the term “Go sit down somewhere”. This is usually referred to when someone gets embarrassed on the court, I.e. Getting dunked on, Crossedover, Someone making a 3 pointer in your eye. The greatest example I can show you of someone who needs to go sit down is in the link below! This guy didn’t only get dunked on but he now has a poster all over homes with him getting dunked on. If you pay attention the bench goes WILD. The commentator gets excited! I get excited! I could watch it over and over and over because it just seems humanly impossible to do what he just did to someone. It’s almost on the verge of disrespect considering the way he dunked on him. But I LOVE it. I’ve seen MANY of my teammates dunk on people. I’ve never been able to dunk myself. But when my teammate dunks on someone, I get HYPE. No, it wasn’t me who dunked on someone. But I’m on the same team as him, we share the same team name on our jesrseys, therefore I can celebrate as if it was me dunking.
Now that you hopefully understand my perspective of someone being told to “go sit down” I want to talk about the resurrection. Specifically in Matthew 28.
Matthew 28: 1-After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.
2 There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it.
Yesterday, I read the latter part of verse two and I started dying of laughter. The angel rolled back the stone and SAT on it. God just totally dunked ALL OVER the devil. The only thing the devil had hanging over all of humanity was death! He killed Jesus, there was this enormous stone in the way. It’s over, the devil wins it looks like. It looks like humanity will be in this perpetual fallen state for all of eternity. But GOD. Come on somebody! A violent earthquake came, an Angel of the Lord appeared and rolled away the stone and sat on it! I dont know about you, but in my eyes. God just dunked on the devil. What the devil meant for evil. God meant it for good. Not only did God just defeat death by resureccting Jesus! But that stone that was holding you back. The past mistakes, the failures, the faults, your past! The stone that is in your life, I’d do what the Angel did and have seat. Usually, the one who gets dunked on has a seat, but in this case the winning team took a seat. In this case, Jesus sits at the right hand of the father. Oh Death, where is your sting? Death where is your victory!? I am on the same team as Jesus, I celebrate with him the he has overcome the grave and because of him that same power dwells in me!
So, I’m going to ask you who’s team are you on? Where do you sit? As christians we are seated with him at the right hand of the heavenly father. In the bible, being seated is a place of power and authority. I’m going to stick with my teammate Jesus who committed the most ridiculous and amazing go sit down moment in all of history by conquering the grave. I will reign with him! We are more than conquerors in Christ Jesus!
This Easter was a huge reminder of the basics. The battle is over. It is finished, we won, we are victorious. Not by our own doing but by the gift and the grace of God. This Easter was a huge reminder that whatever I’m going through in life, whether it be financial trouble, doubt, fear, etc.. Whatever the situation is, God dunked on all of that and now all I have to do is take a seat with him because we are on the same team.
I am excited to rule and reign and do God’s work on this journey!
Blessings.
Love y’all.
Isiah.
