Two of the days in Guatemala consisted of us helping a local school get prepared for the school year. The nineteen of us World Racers split into groups in order to help with different things around the school. One group painted, one group cleaned, and one group (including me) moved rocks, cleaned the grounds, and cut the grass. I should probably say I attempted to cut the grass. I was handed a machete and asked to cut the grass! At first, I didn’t know how a machete was going to cut the grass. As I started to swing the machete, I couldn’t help but think, “It would be really nice to have a lawn mower right about now”. As I continued to swing the machete, I realized that the machete was actually, somewhat, cutting the grass. It was a very tiring process but in the end it made me more appreciative of what I have had access to in the U.S.
