Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit,in faith, in purity. 1 Timothy 4:12
I have a story to tell about a generation that stole my heart. Those bandits. The story goes a little like this…once upon a time (back in the day) in a sleepy, little town called Mountain View there was an awesome little church called Calvary Chapel…where the Word gets taught and the youths are cool…so I decided to check out what this little group of peeps on Friday nights was all about.
They played with spoons and a broken pingpong table. Ate pizza. Asked a lot of questions, nothing to do with the bible, but more to do with my love life (or lack thereof)…
…we've been on mission to Mexico together ('member that summer!), we've slumped some loud songs of praise in the car on the way to camp, we've raised up holy hands together, prayed for eachother, had picnics at the beach where Christian girls go wild, explored air-conditioned museums on hot summer days, learned MAPS, yelled out shakadoodoo at random…
but most importantly, we all meet up with Jesus when we get in the Word.
I can name the culprits: Nathalie. Lissette. Dontae. Anthony. Tari. Cherelle. Andre. David. Jalen.
Franco. Maribel. Alia. Keith. Alexis. Lauren. Logan. Hebert.
Kathery. Giovanna. Elias. Mateo. Crystal. Christian.
Amanda. Sabre. Michael. Malia. Kiana. Sam.
Vanessa. Yasmin. Elijah. Daisy. Jacob.
Rebekah. Zoe. Matte. Aimee.
Brittany. Rayna.
Nate.
…
(I may have missed one or two. They're sneaky bandits.)
The Youth.
Going out on the World Race is bittersweet. The World Race is pretty strict about not entering any new relationships while on mission; luckily for me, I've been pretty much in love since 2010. The fact of the matter is, no matter how far I am, how far I go, how distant I may seem — I'm leaving all these guys a piece of my heart.
I refuse to break up.
This portion of my blog is dedicated to "the youth." (You guys know who you are!)
Youth peeps…Jesus warriors…woot woot…where you at? Holla at yo' gurl!
My Friday nights for the past 2 & a half years have been all about the youth.
Woo. Those are some wild Friday nights. (haha)
But seriously guys…
…I'm holding you accountable to pray every Friday for me. Don't forget about me.
I will be writing specifically to you in this section called "Bridges:The Next Generation."
I will send you letters, like the epistles, but not really because I'm not apostle Paul.
I'll try to make some videos for you, but I doubt I'll eat a cockroach.
That having been said…
I want to encourage young people everywhere to take heart to what the Word tells us in 1 Timothy 4:12. You're young and it's never too early to lead by example. It's never too soon to give your life 100% to the LORD. It's OK to be young and sold out for Jesus! That's cool. That's what I love about you.
Listen my brothers & sisters, you are the next generation rising!
Jesus is calling you.
And He is faithful to equip the called.
Winter Camp 2012 (good times)
Beach day! Cali-girl Christians!
My beautiful youth sisters.
And then this summer…camp was about answering the call, being equipped, fighting the good fight.
Sermons were preached under the treetops, by the river and we learned that: the Word of God equips the People of God to do the Work of God.
Youth, you ARE the people of God being called to be equipped by God to do the work of God.
When you sponsor a child it not only provides a hot meal, clean water, discipleship, and basic medical care for the child, it also supports their family by inviting them through the gates of the CarePoint to receive training, discipleship and mentorship.
