The flight in was pretty awesome. Sandbars everywhere and very pretty ocean. Then looking down on Guatemala city was pretty awesome. We flew into the airport and my teammate Missy left her passport on the airplane and then we spent an hour doing charades to find an ATM and SIM card.
As we flew away from Guatemala City we did a climb into the mountains from 5,000 feet up to 6,000 feet above sea level. The drive was a very short hour and there was a lot of traffic because of the presidential election that was taking place the next day.
I have made some new friends with the kids.
Daniel is 16 and he loves the guitar, singing and dancing. He speaks English and is very very smart. He has been great to talk to. He has memorized all the hymns which is pretty impressive. I am struggling to sing them in Spanish, it hurts my brain.
Lila. She doesn't speak much besides "hola" and a few other words. She comes and sits in my lap every day after meals and we play "peek-a-boo."
And my new friend today, Helen. She doesn't speak much but she always does the thing with your lips. Like when you get a chill and you shake your head side to side and then make your lips say "bubbbbggglbbbbb" HA! So, she comes up to me and makes me do it and then she laughs. She made me sit by her today at lunch. Maureen said it was because I remind her of her dad and brother.
On the way home a motorcycle ran into our van and he broke his collar bone. It was an intense way to start off the first day in Guatemala.
The surgery for the man who ran into us cost the orphanage 2,100 USD, and the orphanage has already been struggling because support is very low here.
The lady who runs and founded the orphanage is named Maureen Casey. She has such an amazing story. She is constantly telling us ways that God has provided for her in her life. Saving her from many people and dangers, providing for her in all ways, seeing supernatural healings in the orphans, and anything else you can possibly imagine. Anytime she is around I just want to sit with her and hear stories. She is so great. You should come here and volunteer just so you can meet her.
She has asked us specifically to pray for the funds at the orphanage. They had to spend all of the money that they had for a new van for the children on other things that have broken within the orphanage. The total that they need is $12,000 USD and she has faith that it will be provided, she just needs prayer.
As you can imagine, working at an orphanage for 9 years would be a struggle for anyone. She says that the only way that she has been able to keep going is from the power from the Holy Spirit. There is no other way that she could still be going as she is, and she can even point back to times were all the ladies in the house knew that the Holy Spirit was keeping them moving, as they were overwhelmed with sickness and lack of sleep.
The prayer for my team this month has been that we go deeper together. We are sharing our testimonies each night this week so that we can get to know where everyone is coming from. It has been very awesome to meet each one of them and just get to know my family on a deeper level, but we want more!
Our prayer is for a deeper walk with each other. Pray for that!
Also, I have been feeling a little weird spiritually. I have been getting into the Word daily, but something just feels off and I can't quite get a grip on what it is. Can you just pray that God will open my eyes to this.
Also, also, I have been struggling with this question today. Should pray over and over until healed or pray once and if they aren't healed then move on? As I have been diggin in scripture I have noticed that Jesus and the apostles only prayed one sentence prayers to heal people…
The first 4 days of the World Race have been so awesome. I can't wait to see what else God has in store for me this year.
