Recently I was listening to The Truth Is Who You Are
by Tenth Avenue North; the song said: “It would be easier if you were just a
thought in my head. It would be easier if you were something I once knew. A
hope just to hold onto, but you’re holding out your hands. You came to take us
back to the start. You came to touch the hardness of our hearts. The truth is
who you are. It’s not enough just to say I believe, because the truth is that
talk is cheap, so grace give me eyes to see. Truth is who you are.”
Talk is cheap if there is no passion or devotion behind it.
Last night we had the opportunity to go to church. This was
the first time I had ever been to a church service here in the Dominican
Republic and the first time I had been to a church that did not speak my
language. I was hit by the language barrier but as it hit me it was the most
amazing and beautiful experience. We were all worshiping God, singing out with
all we had, and raising our hands up to our creator! I felt so much passion. I
could see the desire to know more and to seek more from God from everyone who
was there and I didn’t even know what they were saying.
Talk is cheap because words have no impact unless there is
passion behind them. It is evident when you say something you do not truly
believe in or desire just as it is evident when you say something you believe in with all of your heart.
The other day me and my teammate Christi-An were talking to
a man we met at the park and he said that if we understood what he was saying
we would understand the passion he had. Truth is we knew the passion he had
because it was evident on his face and evident in the way his eyes lit up when he
talked about whatever it was he was talking about. Sure I didn’t quite understand
what it was but I knew whatever it was he was devoted to it.
One day our translator came with us to visit Yakaity. If you
don’t know about Yakaity I wrote the last two blog posts about her and
I encourage
you to read about her if you haven’t heard the story. Anyways she told
our
translator that we were her friends and to me that hit me because I
haven’t
been able to speak with her, yet she still knew that we were her
friends and
that we love her. I also wanted to let you know that she is doing so
much
better. Her mother is now taking care of cleaning her burns and Yakaity
is healing fast. Yakaity has been able to be a child again, she can now
wear
a dress, jump on the bed, and play. Her personality is coming out and
she is
sassy and has the most uplifting smile.
In conclusion I have learned that what you do is more than
just what you say. You can say things but the true way you feel about those
things comes out. When you say things, or when you don’t, take time to see the
passion and devotion you have behind the words.
will be posting a video soon about what this past month in the
Dominican Republic has been like. On Wednesday we are leaving here and
heading to Ecuador so keep us in your prayers. Here are a few photos of Yakaity and the kids we have been blessed to know this past month.
