I close my eyes and I see her
tears. I close my eyes and I remember the pain in her eyes. I can still
feel
the tears swelling up as I remember what it was like holding her as she
cried. On the first day we met Yakaity the pastor we are working with,
Solanda, told
her that God sent us all the way from America to help her. As I thought
about
that statement I realized how true it was. On January 7th I  boarded my plane on my way to the Dominican Republic but in retrospect  I was
heading straight to Yakaity. In my last blog I wrote about the first day we met
Yakaity, how we prayed for a miracle, and how God healed me and Tiffany, and
also how Yakaity’s pain had gone away, but that was just the beginning to the story.

The
day after I wrote the first blog we went back to see her, she was still
in so
much pain, we prayed for her and I felt so helpless. We continued to
pray for a
healing miracle for her. That day we didn’t get to spend much time with
her so
we decided to come back the next day. The next day as we came we heard
her
screaming and crying. We prayed over her again and this pain in my
heart just
couldn’t let this go on anymore. We decided that we needed to do
something to
help her. We realized that we needed to go find a girl in our squad
named Carrie because she had been an ER nurse for 2 years . So Tiffany
called and tried
to find Carrie, when no one answered their phones Tiffany and Solanda
got on
the back of a motorcycle with a man in the neighborhood. While they
were looking for Carrie me and my teammate Christi-An stayed
with Yakaity.

The
poor little girl was in a lot of pain and I felt so heartbroken
because I
couldn’t help her at that moment. When Tiffany and Carrie came back
they had
pain medication for her and we treated her wounds so that she could
begin to
heal and get the infection out of her body. For the past few days we
have been
showing her mother how to properly clean and dress her wounds and her
burns have been so much better and she is
starting to feel better too. There is more to come in this story and I
can not wait to see or hear about the day Yakaity is able to play
outside again. For me
Yakaity has blessed me so much. She has taught me what being the hands
and feet of God really looks like. Mostly I have I learned that God
does do
miracles! God sent us to be a miracle to Yakaity and I pray as we continue we remember that we are not merely heading to a destination but we are heading towards people that need to know God loves them enough to send people to help them.
