A year ago today my team sat around around a small kitchen table in Romania and wrote down a list of our goals for the World Race. Mine were as follows…

  • constant relationship with God – no more back and forth
  • new best friends for life
  • to learn more about the world
  • to care less about appearance
  • to utilize my creative ability
  • to eat things i never said/thought I would
  • to learn more about God and truth and love
  • to discover direction for my life after the race
  • to waste less time when I go back home
  • to let go of control / walk humbly before God
I’m pretty sure I forgot about this list soon after I made it – I was surprised to find it when I was flipping through my diary recently. Another surprise is that, in hindsight, I believe I more or less fulfilled all of these goals. It’s interesting to think about how each one came to be – some of them required tears and turmoil, while others called for gumption and laughter.
If you are about to go on the World Race or are already on the field – I encourage you to make a list of goals! It will be worth it to look back on one day.
