When I mentioned that I wanted to get my hair cut in
Thailand, I was met with high-pitched screams and horrific stares. “Did you hear what happened to Kim Daniels when
she got her hair cut in Thailand? Don’t do it – save yourself, and your hair.”
Welp, I got my hair cut in Thailand. It had been seven
months since my last a haircut, and my ratty ends were driving me ca-razy.
Also, I missed my bangs.
I went to the nearby Cut ‘N Curl and asked for their prices.
400 baht for a haircut? I’ll take it. They paraded me over to the hair-washing
station, where a girl spent about 20 minutes massaging my head. I mean, I guess
it was nice, but I really just wanted a haircut.
So then I was taken to the hair-cutting chair, where this
emo-looking Thai guy approached me and said, “Some off the ends?” I loved that
he already knew. And that was the only thing he said to me the entire time.
Sometimes I would say “can you add some layers there?” or “a little more off
the bangs, please.” He would barely nod his head in recognition and continue to
cut.
Later this lady came over to translate something for him, and
it was then that I wondered if he could even understand me at all. And THEN I noticed that his hand was
bandaged. What, exactly, had I gotten myself into? Was I going to be the next
Kim Daniels?
I’m happy to say the cut ended up being fabulous.
So, if you’re ever in Phuket and are in need of a
haircut, find your way to the Cut ‘N Curl and ask for
this guy…
