The answer to what that somewhat gross-looking food item is from my last
blog: a banana cooked in sticky rice. I’m still not sure why the banana
is pink…but it tasted lovely.

Today I didn’t have to force myself to wake up and get out of bed,
because I never fell asleep last night. Why does that happen? I was
exhausted during the day, but when I tried to go to sleep I found myself
wide awake. After nearly three hours of tossing and turning I gave up. I
hear it’s best to not fight it – to just give into being awake.

I was so frustrated. This was going to ruin my whole day. Why couldn’t God just let me sleep?

Right as I was about to watch a movie on my teammate’s computer, I
noticed that my bff Erin had messaged me on G-chat. It’s rare to have
Internet access where we actually live, so it was nice to not have to plan a time
and make a trip to be able to talk with her. And then, around 5 a.m. my
dearest friend Jolie got online. She wanted to Skype, but I told her
that I couldn’t because my teammate Emily was sleeping next to me. Will
you be on in three hours? I asked her. Her answer was yes. So she cooked
dinner in Ohio while I watched the sun rise in Cambodia, and then we
talked and laughed on Skype until I had to leave for breakfast and she had to go to bed.

It was such a beautiful way to start the day, and in hindsight I wonder
if God purposely prevented me from sleeping in order to give me this
surprise.
