A lot of you wanted to know what I do here on a daily basis, so that’s what this blog is going to be about. My team and I are sleeping at the Children’s Home so our day usually starts by being awakened at 6 by all the kids. So once we’re bright-eyed, we would get up, get ready, then we head down to the YMC, the organization we are working with. We go down there and have breakfast with the rest of our squad and then do our own dishes. After we did our dishes, my team would always have Bible time/feedback. So we’d go sit somewhere as a team, away from everyone else, and have a little Bible study and do feedback. With our team, it usually takes an hour because we all get distracted easily! After that, we start our ministries for the day. Everyday, I would head to one of the schools here with other people and we would tutor kids. We would mainly help them learn how to read, but we’d also work on spelling and math with them. That would always take up our whole mornings. Then we’d come back to YMC and eat lunch (which is always rice). After lunch, we’d go to our afternoon ministry. My main ministry in the afternoon was pool duty. So 7 other people and I would get in the pool with the street kids and swim with them, catch them when they jump in, and just make sure they don’t drown. Pool duty is always nice after a long hot morning. By the time we were done with pool duty, it would be dinner time (which, once again, was more rice). After dinner, it was just free time. So sometimes we would swim or play card games. Sometimes, we would go to the mall, McDonald’s, or Starbucks. It’s just kind of do whatever you want. So eventually my team would walk back up to the Children’s Home to sleep, but something my team was in charge of was the nursery. My team always covered the night shift. So we had someone from our team in the nursery with the babies from 10pm till 2am then you would switch and someone else would go from 2am till 6am. So that was my basic day before the squad left. Now that the squad has left, a lot has changed. Our morning still starts off the same with being awakened by the kids, then going to breakfast. But now we just kind of have to find what we want to do for our ministry that day and someone else has to want to do it with you because you can’t be by yourself. So our schedule is completely changed now and our ministries are different each day. Although, we do have one main ministry right now and it’s the nursery still. The good thing though about still doing it is that we don’t do night shifts anymore. We have someone there from 6am till 12pm and then we have someone else there from 3pm till 6pm. We all take turns on who does what days but that is our main ministry right now. And that’s what my days look like right now!
