We are here in Busia Kenya. Busia Uganda is the same city but just across the border. It’s about a 30 minute walk to the border from the house we are staying in. The city is about 80,000 people and is mostly situated just off the highway. We are staying in a house that has been given by a family at the church for World Racers and other guests. There are three bedrooms and two baths. The kids of the family are staying here with us, helping us find things, get water from the well, and teaching us how to wash our clothes in a bucket. Check out my first lesson at carrying a 10 liter jug of water on my head. Don’t worry about all the water on my shirt!
We also have a chef cooking for us. Yes, you read that correctly. We have a trained chef who
is one of the members of the church that volunteered to cook for us the whole time we are here. Yep, we are spoiled. We are eating delicious homemade African foods. Chef Lucas is going to make my stay in Africa so much more appetizing! We are also sleeping under mosquito nets and taking bucket showers. Since there are more girls than guys on our team the girls room is pretty full. Check out the picture with our 9 mattresses and 11 girls sleeping in a bedroom. It’s tight, but we are sleeping on mattresses..yay!
Today we did some shopping for food, water, and other “necessities”. For instance, we searched all the local chemists (pharmacies) for something to treat head lice. Yep, there’s been an outbreak on our combined team of 13 and currently 4 people have it. I’m free and clear so far, but who knows if it will be my turn next. Fun fun fun!
We will be helping with construction on a new structure at the church. They are in need of another building to use for offices and a classroom. The church has been around for 14 years, but has never had more than an auditorium. So, we are helping this week. Starting next week, we will do some evangelism around town at homes, in a prison, and at a school. I’m loving Kenya!

Thanks for reading and praying for me!
