We arrived in Nairobi, Kenya on Monday morning this week. The weather is cool here. I’m wearing a long sleeved shirt and scarf around my neck. It feels like fall and it’s beautiful to not be sweating! We are staying at a place called Milimani Backpackers & Safari Center. I love it here. We have time to relax and reflect. The whole squad is here which is about 55 of us plus our coaches from Holland. We sit outside and worship. I sit around the fire at night. We are having teaching times and we are processing what’s been happening for the last 5 months.

The theme of our teaching right now is ‘pushing forward’. I’ve spent 5 months trying to get over myself, frustration with our teammates, the schedule, and cultural differences all while trying to do ministry. Now, we
are being encouraged to finally let go of all that stuff and keep moving forward with a sense of identity in Christ. We are being asked to look to God with more confidence that He will show up and do bigger things.  A key point I’m working on is to look outward. I’ve been focused too much on myself and neglected to look outward enough–to love God and to love others.

With God’s help, I’m going to enjoy my teammates more and remember that the grace I receive from the Lord is the same grace that I’m expected to offer to them.

There is something sweet about being in Africa. The whole world seems to look at Africa and have compassion or at least hope something good. It’s weird, but it’s kind of like I can feel that when I step onto this continent.
