I am sitting, soaked in the sweat that never stops in this region of the world,
at an Internet café in Phnom Penh,
Cambodia. We
have learned about the history of this war-torn country in the past few days,
and in my apathetic approach to Southeast Asia
I must ashamedly admit I had no knowledge of the genocide that has occurred in
this country in the past thirty years. I would encourage you if you do not know
anything about Cambodia
to either rent the film “The Killing Fields” or read some literature to update
you on world relations. I was astonished at what I did not know.
I am likewise astounded at how much I love it here. I had no
idea that I would. I love the people, the culture, the FOOD (amazing), and most
of the entire ministry we are partnering with. The church we are partnering
with this month is called New Life Fellowship and is absolutely amazing. They
are a very young church with the eldest pastor at age 35 (this is not
surprising, though, given the Cambodian recent history). They are also growing
rapidly in a country where less than 2% of the population call themselves
Christians. Their congregation here in Phnom
Penh has grown from two to seven hundred in the last
five years with over sixty church plants throughout the surrounding rural
areas.
They have many ministries that reach out to the city and
rural areas to meet practical needs and share the love of Jesus for the sake of
the Kingdom. It is an honor to partner with them. I will likely be doing some
media work for the church as they need films to introduce their ministries. I
am extremely excited about this prospect as I have been longing to do something
practical that incorporates my gifts and passions. I love advocacy and anything
creative, so this will be a perfect outlet for me.
Pray for us. Pray for our team. Pray for New Life
Fellowship. And pray for Cambodia.
That the whole world may know the grace we have received.
