Although we have only been working at the Light House for a week and we only have one more week left, I have truly loved it here. We have made some great relationships with the staff and volunteers (in picture) at Dublin Christian Missions and I will
be sorry to leave all of this behind. I have a big heart and I cry a lot, so I can only imagine the pain I will feel when we spend an entire month with a ministry and then leave. Caitlin, my squad leader, talked to me about loving and leaving…that’s just what you do on the World Race. You pray for God to break your heart for the people you are serving and then you do it again the next month and again the next.
each other by asking, “how are you doing today,” and then walk away before the person can even answer. When did we stop paying attention to each other and become so consumed with ourselves? Each night we pass out food at the Light House I watch the faces of the men who come by. They each have a story, a reason for what brought them to this place, but who will listen to them? I can actually see the hopelessness and pain etched in their faces as they hand me their plates for hot food. Some look me straight on while others never lift their eyes to meet mine. As I slop cheesy pasta and ham on their tray I silently pray for each one thinking, if someone had invested, truly invested, in their lives would these men be here now? God loves all of us so much, yet it is difficult to tell these men this when they have never experienced unconditional love once in their lives.
Sure it’s hard sometimes to love your neighbor or invest in someone you will only know for a short time, but it is so worth it. God created us to be relational creatures; to invest in one another and care for one another. At the end of the day, we all want to be loved and accepted right?
