The countdown has begun and I am preparing to head back on the World Race with the amazing T Squad! It has already been quite a journey and we haven’t even left the states yet. When I first said yes to being a squad leader, I was stepping out in complete faith that God would guide me through it. I did not feel qualified in the least, and actually I was quite terrified at the idea of leading 43 other men and women around the world. Then training camp came around, and it was go time. For the first few days I was a total wreck…trying to live up to expectations only I had set and relying on my own strength to get me through it. Once I surrendered all my fears to God, however, something inside of me shifted. I found a peace and confidence in this new role as a squad leader. I submitted to HIS authority and in that realized there was no pressure on me to perform. All that was left for me to do was be obedient to God and fall completely in love with my new squad.
And I did.
So now, as I begin the process of repacking my backpack and saying goodbye to family and friends again, this is what I’m thinking… I don’t really want to live out of a backpack again, but THEY are worth it. I don’t really want to leave behind all the people I love, but THEY are worth it. I will give up my bed, good food, a normal life, because THEY are worth it. At training camp I got a glimpse of who these people are and who they will become after this year, and God has given me the opportunity to take part in it. These men and women are not just names and faces to me anymore, they are my brothers and sisters in Christ. They are my squad and I will get to laugh with them, cry with them, hold them, and love them.
I was nervous to become a squad leader, but I could not ignore what God was calling me to do. And that has made all the difference.
I leave for India, January 1st, with T Squad, but before I go I would like to reach my goal of $3,400 which covers the first four months I’m out on the field. Just like my first Race I have to raise support in order to do this, so I ask that you would consider partnering with me on this new adventure.
