There is something about living a simple life.

Here in “Little Tokyo” our daily schedule is pretty flexible.  We have many responsibilities such as helping
prepare food, bible stories and games with the kids, afternoon futbol games,
English classes, and nightly Bible studies for the village.  In between all these activities though, we
have chunks of time where we don’t have anything scheduled.

I love this time.

Despite the fact that our team of 7 is together 24/7 and we
can’t really escape each other, these are the times we are able to do our own
thing.  It’s our down time and we cherish
it.  Some read, some nap, some play the
guitar, some listen to music, and some pray.
We seem to scatter throughout our small two room ‘house.’  We are able to get alone with our thoughts
and God.

I’m not saying this isn’t possible back home but all the
distractions sure do pull your attention elsewhere.  Here, we have no TV, no internet, no cars, no
town to explore (hey, we don’t even have paved roads!), no money etc.  The choices are limited.  I use the time to ground myself for the day;
to get my feet set back on the foundation that they so quickly want to come
unglued from.  I like to listen to music
and read the bible-which is not something I have ever been able to say is fun
for me until now.  I am thankful for this
time and I pray it has become such a staple in my life by the end of this year
that I cannot exist without it.
