Month 7 of the World Race. Cambodia!

As a squad we were blessed with a rest day in between our 24 hour road trip from Chiang Mai, Thailand in Siem Reap, Cambodia…and it was everything I could have asked for and more! We saw Anghor Wat at sunrise and spent the morning touring the ruins, and then enjoyed some great Mexican food & margs, nap time, dinner with the squad at an Italian restaurant for my squad leader, Nikki’s bday, ate a tarantula (!!!), and spent the night dancing with a bunch of people from the squad! I’m thankful for these special days I get to experience while serving the world.

For month 7 my team and I are serving with Crossing Cambodia in Battambang. Battambang is the capital city of the Battambang Province in northwestern Cambodia. Crossing Cambodia sponsors 5 street kids in school and they also feed them 2x a day. In addition Crossing Cambodia has a preschool located on site. The kids have off from school this month and Team Ovida is leading a summer camp for the kids they sponsor (and a guest for each kid)  during the day from 7:30 am – 4 pm while the other teachers spend time training for the preschool.

The kids at the center range in age from 2 to 12, and they are crazy, wild and fun. The first couple of days have been pretty hard to be completely honest. The heat and humidity can be somewhat overwhelming here and our days start rather early…but we’re staying positively charged, and practicing the critical skill of patience! I’m excited to be able to have this month to love on these kids.

These kids come from situations in which their families are living on the streets, or squatting in make shift homes on random properties in the city.  The best part about this month is we are able to give them a place to spend their days when school would otherwise be in session to be in a safe community, under positive influences, and playing with other kids.

I’m excited to see the ways God shows up this month and continues to grow us individually and as a team. Please be praying for us throughout the month! As the months go by they can tend to be somewhat harder than the last the further out we get in our journey.
