Last week, we stood up for all the things we spent our life hiding from.
We filled out a questionnaire about various sin struggles. Things we aren’t proud of. Things we’ve done and regretted. Things the world told us that we are now broken and shameful because of it. Things we’ve possibly never told anyone about.
Questions ranged from being a child of divorce to intentionally starving yourself to lose weight. Being sexually abused or crossing a physical boundary with a guy. Using drugs or drinking excessively to experiencing depression. Having an abortion to having thoughts about suicide. Comparing yourself to feeling alone in any of these issues.
We answered the questions, turned in the form, then anonymously received another person’s questionnaire in return. Then we had the privilege to stand up for each struggle that our sister had circled.
The word incredible does not even come close to how this experience was.
Not only did we get to represent our friend, we also go to see how many of us have struggled with the same things. Afterwards, we transitioned into a time where we shared our stories and talked about what has been haunting for us for years.
Feelings of regret, shame, and insecurity. Feelings of unforgiveness, fear, disgust, and disgrace.
In these moments, we chose to bring our struggles into the light and remind each other that Christ died for all those things we are ashamed about.
Christ took the blame for all of those things so we don’t have too and then He offers us redemption. He helps us walk step by step into recovery and healing.
And through this activity, Jesus was showing us that we aren’t even alone in all of this. He hand delivered 48 women that understand and are eager to help.
Some people are 10 steps ahead in healing and some we get to walk alongside as we remind ourselves of what Jesus says about us.
He calls us pure and redeemed and valued. He offers us healing and abundant life when we drop our baggage at His feet so we can finally walk in freedom.
The 48 of us are going to fight for each other and continue to bring these hard things into the light so the enemy can’t tell us we are broken anymore.
We are choosing to walk in freedom, will you? Let me know so we can do it together.
