So much has already happened in Nepal. We are working with a group called Agape ministries. These people are so passionate about sharing the wonderful news of Jesus with those in their city. Though Christianity is not illegal, our friend, Lazarus, a local, has told us that people who are caught evangelizing in this area have been punished by law, for the constitution does say, “no person shall be entitled to convert another person from one religion to another and shall not take actions or behave in a way that would create disturbance in another’s religion.” This law makes it very hard to share the wonderful good news of Jesus, yet they choose each day to take this risk, because they are compelled by Christ’s love. I’m truly in awe of their dedication and heart for the lives of those around them and their faith in God’s promises.
I think my favorite ministry here is their ministry in the slums. It is so beautiful. At 7AM every morning, the locals take us to the slums where we spend time with the children, teaching them some basic English along with songs, dances, and games. We spend the morning this way until it is time for them to go to school. The locals here have been building relationships with the children over many years, being a safe place where the children can see the light of Jesus, with the hope of one day earning the right to be heard by the children – really heard – as they share with them, and even sometimes with their parents, the gospel of Jesus. And in the evening they return to the slums, once again to simply be present.
Another way they bring the residents of Kathmandu to the feet of Jesus is through prayer walks—lots of prayer walks. In just one week we have covered so much ground on foot, lifting up the towns and the people in them to the Father, asking that he will show up in a way that is undeniable, and that lives will be transformed.
My teammates and I believe the Holy Spirit is going to move in a big way this month. It’s almost like I can feel it building.
Here are some ways you can be praying for me, for my team, and for Agape ministries:
-Pray that my teammates and I would push one another to step out in faith and courage each day.
-Pray that God would continue providing the staff at Agape ministries with opportunities to share the gospel, and he would guard them with protection as they do so.
-Pray that the Lord would guard us against Satan’s schemes
-Pray that God would bind us together as He is bound with Christ
-We have had a lot of illness within our teams.. almost half our people have been sick at some time during our stay (which has only been 8 days) Pray for healing and supernatural health.
