When I tell people about the adventure I’m about to embark on, I get a variety of responses.
- Are you crazy?
- Are you scared?
- That’s incredible!!
- I’m excited to see how God will use you.
- That’s sure to be a trying, humbling experience.
Of all of the conversations I’ve had, it seems as though it’s usually the extreme situations that come to up. Safety is a top concern, and the exhilarating adventure is up there as well. While it’s necessary to be mindful of safety concerns, and fun to think about the upcoming excitement, it’s important to think about the looming issue of home sickness.
It’s bound to happen. I’m stepping away from many comforts, people and places I love very much, and leaving behind many well-known daily routines, and plunging into a world (literally) of unknowns.
I trust that God has handpicked each and every person that makes up my squad, and have found mighty comfort knowing that. Still, I can’t put into words just how much I will miss my dear family and friends.
What can we do to soften that blow? Here’s where you all come in. I’m asking for letters/cards/notes to open along the way. Label them for a specific month, country, or a particular situation. When I’m at that point in my trip, your letter will see me through. Feel free to include your favorite Bible verse(s), inspirational quotes, or your wonderful words of wisdom. Whatever it is, it will be perfect.
Can you help me out? With launch date rapidly approaching, I’m asking for any/all letters ASAP. Please get in touch to get my address and pop those letters in the mail (or drop them by) before Christmas.
What a true blessing you all are to me.
