Who knew that it wouldn’t be until month 5 that I would be evangelizing, as part of our ministry. I expected that I would be doing a lot more of that.
Here is my thoughts on evangelism pre-race (maybe more like pre-this month!):
– I thought that only jehovah’s witnesses and mormons evangelized door-to-door.
– I thought that my fear of rejection was greater than Jesus’ commandment to go forth and make disciples of all nations.
– I thought that I didn’t know enough about the Bible to be able to introduce people into this faith. What if they ask me hard questions and I don’t know the right answers?
What I think about evangelism now:
– Everyone could evangelize, although not all people are called to evangelism. Another really important part of evangelism is intercession, take someone along who will pray on behalf of the evangelizer and also the evageliz-ee.
– There is nothing greater than any of God’s commandments. Rejection might happen, but it is not me that is being rejected. Some people will not be ready to hear the gospel, and that’s okay. God says, Don’t be surprised if world hates you!
– It is true that I don’t have all the answers. But you want to know the good news?? God does! It is so beautiful to see God working when you don’t have the words. Faith needs a step of faith to grow.
Stay tuned to hear about my experience with evangelism this past month in Botswana.
