The only way we as humans can love freely is if we are secure in the fact that we were first loved by the God who IS love.
“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Romans 5:8
We continually look to the this world for love even while it continues to prove it’s point over and over that it is an endless climb trying to fill that void in our own strength; but again we continue to try leaving us with dry, bitter and hardened hearts.
I have tried to find love from others by spending countless dollars on the next trend, but with out those clothes on my back I felt like an empty canvas worth nothing but the prideful heart I still wore. BUT the God of love clothes me in righteousness, strength, honor and gladness and to him I am priceless. Proverbs 31: 25
I have tried finding love through sports thinking that maybe they will satisfy my heart. I would spend countless hours perfecting my game to earn respect from teammates and glory from the crowd so that I could be on a high, lasting only for a short while before I was left unsatisfied once more. BUT the God of love delights in me no matter how I perform and promises to satisfy me all the days of my life. Psalm 91:16
Daily I would lift up my shirt to asses how my abs were doing, my body image began to consume me. The scale and waist band began to measure my worth and the amount of love I deserved. BUT the God of love says I am fearfully and wonderfully made. I am his workmanship and even before I was born he skillfully fashioned me. Psalm 139: 14-16
I have even used food to fill the pleasure of being loved, during depressing moments it was the only thing that felt good even if it was temporarily. BUT the God of love says “ I am the bread of life, he who comes to me shall never hunger…”. John 6:35
I have also sought to find love in boys whether it was through winks, flirtatious gestures, smooth compliments or even a simple smile from a hot guy on the street making me feel loved on the surface but leaving by soul feeling disgusted. BUT the God of love has such beautiful thoughts toward me that my mind can’t begin to comprehend them all leaving my soul overflowing with love and comfort. Isaiah 55:9
Social Media. Again and again I have scrolled and scrolled envying and coveting others clothes, sculpted figures, wealth, number of followers and even spirituality thinking that if I put on a cover people won’t really see the hurt inside of me. In all reality those same people might be just as lost as me if not more. BUT the God of love already chose me and set me apart for a time as this so that I may follow him with all of my heart. Psalm 4:3
I have used my family and friends to gain the deepest love but that would also disappoint because they weren’t always there when I needed them most, simply because they can’t be everywhere I am all the time to comfort me. BUT the God of love gave us the Holy Spirit who comforts us in all things. John 15:26
By finding my worth and love in the world my heart wasn’t able to love others freely instead I could only love with selfish ambition. The creator of the universe called me beautiful and I chose not to believe that truth allowing the enemy to feed me countless lies. Those lies led me to be conceited and selfish disabling me from freely loving people! Thankfully the Lord grabbed ahold of my heart and I can boldly say that I am a beautiful artwork of God! Since I excepted that free gift of love God has begun making me more humble giving me the capacity to prefer others and love freely as He first loved me.
As you are reading this I believe that the God wants to heal your broken scared heart. Emurse yourself fully into the fountain of true love that is free, which will never run dry. Let your fountain of God’s love overflow so that you will be able to love others freely and truly. BUT first you have to BELIEVE that the God of Love first freely loved you. John 3:16
“But I am like an olive tree flourishing in the house of God; I trust in God’s unfailing love for ever and ever.”
Psalm 52:8
