Hi, I’m Heidi! I’m 28 years old and I grew up in Alma, Michigan, in a dynamic family of five: Dad, Mom, older sister, middle sister, and me. We’ve since added two brothers-in-law, a nephew, and a niece. We were raised in a riotous salad of church, education, road trips, study abroad, and rearing every type of normal farm animal for 4-H (we won’t talk about that couple of short-lived ferrets).
Some things I like:
- Anything creative: art, sewing, knitting, graphic design, writing, poetry, dancing, and repurposing trash to make something beautiful and useful.
- FOOD. For me, cooking is taking the bull by the horns–you may or may not get edible results. If I submit to a recipe, stomachs tend to be pleased. But my family is more familiar with my comedy of errors: going rogue has literally produced nightmares!
- Travel, nature, hiking, camping under a meteor shower by a glowing bonfire with family and friends.
- Languages!!! Whether studying French, Spanish, Thai, DuoLingo tidbits, or designing my own hieroglyphics, grammatical puzzles captivate me!
- Music: Singing! If I can’t remember the words, I may spontaneously invent fresh lyrics. {#unashamed}
My 5-star faves:
- Jesus my Savior, studying His Word, and talking about Him!
- Heart-to-hearts. Always.
- New life and new names. One verse that inspires me is: “Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins and will raise up the age-old foundations; you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls, Restorer of Streets with Dwellings.” -Isaiah 58:12 {Check out the whole chapter here.}
So, why the World Race? Mom led me to accept Jesus as my Lord and Savior when I was between 4 and 6 years old. Very early on, God planted in my heart that nothing in life matters, apart from knowing and loving Christ. It has deeply burdened my soul knowing there were and still are people around the world who don’t even have access to hear about Jesus’s love. That’s when my draw to missions began. A few months ago, someone at my church was fundraising and described the World Race Expedition Route, with the specific mission to reach the unreached in the 10/40 window. My heart leapt out of my chest and my immediate thought was, “I WANT TO GO.” By God’s grace, I now have the opportunity to action this passionate cry of my heart, that I may know Christ and make Him known! And… starting in January 2019, I am excited to be joining the team going to: Japan, Taiwan, China, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Armenia, and two countries in the Middle East.
Please consider supporting me in any or all of the following ways:
- Prayer: that all people would hear of the love of Jesus and that the Holy Spirit would work in their hearts and minds to draw them to Him; general prayer for my team and me.
- Subscribe to my blog: This is my first blog. [Uncontainable excitement and suspenseful energy!] I pray that God uses my writing and experiences to bless you, and that you taste the sweat and fruit of this journey, too. Please read and leave comments!
- Financial support: Please prayerfully consider investing in my personal journey to spread God’s love, for His glory and for His Kingdom. With gratitude, I can assure you that your gift and investment will be honored through tireless efforts to share His grace with those in need. *It’s also a tax-deductible donation!*
- Share what we are doing with others: Feel free to tell your family, friends, and people you meet, share the link to my blog, or connect them to me. I’m eager to answer questions or just talk about my experiences with any prospective missionaries!
